Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace
The root meaning of redemption is to be ransomed or bought back or restored by the payment of a price. It also implies being rescued, and set free. It is by which salvation is obtained, by the payment of a ransom.
Because of our sin we are alienated and separated from God, because we so naturally defy him and go our own way. In our flesh we are slaves to sin’s guilt, punishment and power.
It is through the sacrificial nature of Christ and through the shedding of his blood and giving his own life in our place that we are redeemed. As we get ready to celebrate Christmas this year let us remember the true reason why this baby was born. He came to redeem you and pay your penalty so that you can be set free from sin and spend eternity with him.
