Eph. 1:5 - "...In Love, He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will."
Humans, the apple of God's eye, for when he had created them, He said, "It is Very Good." Created perfect, outside the realm of discomfort, sickness, pain and death. Created to have intimate relationship with God, worshipping Him freely without compunction. But there was one, lingering, object that plagued this environment of perfection...the tree of knowledge of good and evil. It was the disobedience of Adam and Eve, and the eating of this fruit, that caused us to become estranged from God, with irreconcilable differences.
However, before the foundation of the earth was laid, God had already made a way to bridge this gap that seemed insurmountable.
God had predestined a path, through His one and only Son, Jesus Christ; that brought reconciliation between God's people and Himself. It wasn't a path wrought with servants, riches, trinkets and fame; but instead wrought with the unbelief of the people He came to save, mockery, scorn, betrayal, a whipping post and culminated on a cross, where He hung for all to see.
God had predestined His son to become the ultimate atonement for our ignorance, disobedience, and rebellion against Him; in order to extend to us the grace and mercy that would allow us to be called His sons and daughters, and reign with Him for eternity.
2 Peter 3:9- For God is not slack as we consider slackness, but is long suffering, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
